Institutional quality and economic growth in the non-EU post-Soviet countries: Does energy abundance matter?

ABSTRACT. After regaining independence, most of the post-Soviet countries encountered socio-economic difficulties during transition period. These challenges were also accompanied by low institutional quality. Some countries, such as Russia, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, can be categorized energy-rich, while remaining are non-rich in terms energy. Thereby, aim this study is twofold: first, to analyze impact quality on economic growth case non-EU second, determine whether there any difference link between energy-rich sample countries. Two-Stage Least Squares reveal a U-shaped association environment growth. Furthermore, results suggest that lower compared with their counterparts. With regards control variables, findings indicate positive statistically significant openness Finally, negative inflation, population rate dependent variable.
